20 Belize Sailing Stories: How We Lobster!

As the lobster season comes to a close, we wanted to whet your appetites for the upcoming season on July 1st by sharing a few guest pictures, the chefs’ inspired creations with fresh catches, as well as some of the captains’ lobster-spearing exploits!

Chef Kainie (your very own Belize sailor girl and party planner extraordinaire) left one of her guests speechless when she served her the very lobster she speared with Captain Manny earlier that day. Baked with butter, garlic, creole seasonings, and sprinkled with love, Kainie served the epic catch with fluffy coconut rice, zesty pineapple pico de gallo, and succulent pan-fried plantains – one of BSV’s signature dishes.

Belize’s waters are home to the spiny lobster, which many of our guests find sweeter than those in the US.

Believe it or not, almost all the lobster caught is done by hand using age-old spearing techniques. The season is strictly enforced to maintain healthy stocks and ensure an abundance for locals and tourists alike. Some visitors even plan their trip around the season’s opening and coincide their vacation with one of the “Lobsterfest” celebrations in Ambergris Caye, Caye Caulker, and Placencia.

So, if you’re a die-hard lobster lover, we can tailor your sailing itinerary to include activities centered around the world’s favorite edible crustacean, such as:

  • A Catch & Cook Beach BBQ Day where you’ll snorkel and spear with your captain and personal guide, then head to a private beach or remote island to prepare the catch over coconut husks and driftwood fires. Have an ice-cold Belikin beer while you’re at it for a truly authentic destination sea-to-table dining experience!
  • A Lobster Cooking Class with your private chef where you can try your hand at ceviche (the ultimate Belizean appetizer), lobster linguine, or a Caribbean coconut seafood stew. You even get to take the recipes home to share with your family and friends!
  • Visiting a Lobsterfest Block Party in San Pedro, Caye Caulker, or Placencia. [Over]indulge in culinary delights from participating restaurants at their pop-up stands, imbibe in the party, and dance to live music at, arguably, Belize’s biggest festivities of the year!

So why wait any longer? Jet set to Belize this summer and feast to your heart’s and palate’s content!
