Guest stories – David and Carla Keith
Over 10 years ago David and Carla ventured out sailing with great friends with the original Cliff Wilson at the helm, or ‘Senior’ as we call him on Aubisque, Cliff and Sherry’s 1993 Lagoon 47. They still talk about the charter to this day and said they have never laughed so much in their lives, leading to a passion for Belize, the water, sailing and good times.
Since then they have done 4 charters with BSV, explored the entire country and further, moved to Caye Caulker, built a guest house and now…. acquired a 50ft Fountaine Pajot ‘Saba’ that we are thrilled to be welcoming to the BSV fleet. Here’s a little more from them:
- Tell us about your first sailing experience with BSV.
We first sailed in Belize in April 2010 to celebrate David’s 50th Birthday and our friend George’s birthday. We didn’t know much about Belize Sailing Vacations and Cliff Sr. was our captain on the trip. On our first night, we met Cliff Jr. who was on Doris at Drowned Cayes. We were on ‘Aubisque’ and ‘Doris’ had just entered the fleet. We went on to Caye Caulker and had several “miracles” happen on that trip, including finding a ring while snorkeling which we considered a special symbol. When we came back from snorkeling it was raining and we decided to play “Here comes the sun” from the Beetles and lo and behold, the sun came out! That was our second miracle! We had so much fun and so many great memories on this trip!
- What is your favorite island/collection of islands in Belize?
Our favorite is North Long Cocoa. It feels secluded like you’re in the middle of nowhere. It is a nice place to have a private BBQ, some hammock time and great snorkeling. We would like to go to Glover’s next.
- What makes sailing in Belize with Belize Sailing Vacations unique?
David has owned a sailboat before and has been sailing all over but Belize is definitely our favorite place to sail. When compared to the BVI for example, Belize is less crowded, there are more islands to visit, much more picture-perfect scenery, the snorkeling is unparalleled and the ability to catch your own dinner is priceless.
Cliff, Rachael and all the crew take really good care of us. We always feel pampered. They bend over backward to ensure our dietary requirements are met for each person. It really is the best vacation ever!
- What made you decide to include your catamaran in the BSV fleet?
It is an easy decision, knowing Cliff and Rachael and how good the staff is. It is a well-run business and everyone is always willing to assist in any way possible. We are thrilled about adding “Nowhere” to the BSV fleet and hope that anyone who sails on Nowhere enjoys the experience as much as we do!
