The ocean covers more than 70% of the Earth’s surface; due to its vastness, 94% of all living species exist within the seas, and marine plants produce 70-80% of the oxygen we breathe. Preservation of it and its marine environments is vital to the entire planet’s existence.
With over 40% of the land and sea protected as reserves, Belize is a pioneer in conservation efforts between local and international NGOs and bold government initiatives.
Here at BSV, we take conservation and sustainability very seriously, as do our guests, which is why we have partnered with NGOs like Oceana and Fragments of Hope to minimize our ecological footprint and support conservation and preservation strategies along the largest living barrier reef in the world.
This year, on the heels of Earth Day, we would like to pay respectful homage to our special place in the universe: our home, Belize. We are doing it all, from advocating for the protection of manatees, coral reef restoration, effective management of fish stocks, mangrove reforestation projects, and the preservation of marine reserves to social responsibility outreach programs that benefit local communities! And we can take you along for the ride so you, too, can be involved, learn, and participate countrywide!
This summer, we will be gifting US$500 to the tireless NGOs that protect and sustain one of the ocean’s most awe-inspiring ecosystems, for every charter booked.
These include: Oceana, Fragments of Hope, Ocean Academy, TASA, TIDE, the Manateeman, Bacalar Chico Marine Reserve, Glovers Reef Marine Reserve, The Nature Conservancy, and the Placencia Seaweed Farmers.
